CUFA Launched Homes for Hounds Doghouse Program in 2009

UPDATE
We are proud to announce that we have enlisted the help of the following to distribute our houses:

-Kathy Jaster, Humane Officer with the Washington County Humane Society (1 house, July 2010)

-Jill Brown, Battle Against Dogfighting (BAD) is part of Friends of MADACC.
"Through education, early intervention, and community involvement, BAD promotes programs that stop the violence associated with dog fighting and animal abuse; educate the public about humane treatment of animals and responsible pet ownership; train youth and community leaders who can take the message of compassion throughout their own communities; and connect pet owners to low-cost and free resources."
They distributed 4 dog houses at the "Peace for Paws" block party on June 12, 2010 at Calvary Baptist Church on Milwaukee's North Side (a high risk neighborhood for dog fighting).

People and animals need shelter from the harsh elements of weather. Wild animals go to their den or cave to escape the hot sun and cold conditions. Some animals are better suited than others for living outdoors. There is a common misconception that dogs will be "fine" if left outside. This is not true! All animals need adequate shelter from the elements and insulation against cold weather. Companion animals should not be left outside for long periods in freezing weather - like humans, they can suffer from hypothermia and frostbite. The young and the senior pets are especially at risk.

Unfortunately for many dogs, their guardians are just financially unable to provide this basic care. We at CUFA have assisted low-income families with spay/neuter services for nearly a decade. We would now like to extend our circle of compassion to include the dogs of our community. Beginning this fall, we launch a new program, Homes for Hounds, staffed by volunteers and supplied by donations, which will focus on building doghouses for those in need.

If you have carpentry skills, tools to loan or even just the desire to help, please contact Kim F-I at Cufa-WI@hotmail.com to participate. Monetary donations are also greatly appreciated to cover additional costs.
